For some time, I've been building up a cancer section to this website. I knew the double focus of the site was temporary and that I'd have to eventually give the cancer articles a home of their own.
How it happened is a story all on its own.
Sunday afternoon, I had no thoughts whatever of even working on my website, never mind starting a new one. I made a typo on another blog, and my son Skyped me to point it out. (Wonderful things, sons!)
We got chatting (aka Skyping) and during our conversation, he suddenly told me that he'd noticed the domain name, riseandsoar.com was available. That's the working title of my latest book; Rise and Soar above the Cancer Valley. Now when Steve decides "Now's the time," things tend to happen. And sure enough, within 24 hours, we had a new website up and running. (Thank you again Steve!)
The aim of Rise and Soar is to encourage and inspire those affected by cancer, whether as patients, survivors or as those who care for them.
It's not intended to be a huge information site, although I am building a good library of resource links. When I went through my dreadful cancer year, I longed for a "cancer friend" and for inspirational articles. I hope to provide both through this new site.
If you'd told me, when I woke up on Sunday, that I'd have a second website on the go by evening, I'd have laughed. And probably panicked. I had my schedule for the next few days all planned out. But what a wonderful (and fruitful) diversion it proved to be. And surprise! I caught up quicker than I believed possible. It's amazing what a little bit of pressure can do to your concentration levels!
Have you ever had your day planned out, and suddenly a major project sent you on a different track altogether? How did you feel about the diversion?
P.S. Please visit me at Rise and Soar and sign my guest book.
